Faith and Fitness: How to Lose Weight and Stay Healthy Using Kingdom Principles
As women of faith, we are called to honor God in every area of our lives—our purpose, our relationships, our finances, and yes, our physical health.
In First Corinthians 6:19, scriptures tell us that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit. That truth doesn’t just inform how we view ourselves—it shapes how we steward our time, energy, and choices.
Over the years, I’ve come to realise that achieving a health goal is not just about physical discipline—it’s deeply spiritual. When we align our wellness journey with Kingdom values, we step into lasting transformation. I tried had tried all the lose weight quick schemes, from the cabbage diet to the water diet to the keto diet. Girlfriend, I tried them all. The only thing, that worked for me was prayer. Was doing it with God. I know it sounds like a fairy-tale, but I assure you, I lost over 100lbs with minimum works (enough just to stay fit) and no expensive coaches or equipment other than what I had in my pantry. And Girlfriend, I'm here to let you know that you can do it too.
The Word of God: A Blueprint for Health
The Bible is not simply a guide for spiritual life—it is a complete roadmap for living well on earth. The same truths that govern our relationships and finances also apply to how we treat our bodies.
Here are some of the biblical values that anchor a Christ-centered health journey:
Stewardship – Recognizing our bodies as gifts from God and caring for them accordingly (Genesis 1:29)
And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food
Discipline – Training the body and mind to align with purpose (1 Corinthians 9:27)
But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified,
Renewed Mindset – Letting God transform our thinking (Romans 12:2)
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will
Gratitude – Embracing progress with thanksgiving (1 Thessalonians 5:18)
Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus
Rest – Honoring God through Sabbath and balance (Exodus 33:14)
The Lord replied, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest
Community – Strengthening each other in the journey (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10)
Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down,
one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up
These principles are not abstract or untested theory—they’re practical, powerful, and essential for lasting results.
My Journey: Losing 100 Pounds with God's Help
With the guidance and strength of the Lord, I lost over 100 pounds. It was not an easy journey, but it was a sacred one. Prayer, scripture, and consistency carried me through. However, after reaching my goal, I stopped using the fitness tracker that had kept me focused—and eventually gained 20 pounds back.
That experience taught me something critical: maintaining your health requires just as much intention as reaching your goal. Tracking your habits—especially for the six months following major weight loss—is key to sustainability. It keeps you mindful, grounded, and accountable.
