So, let me ask you—have you ever felt like you’re doing it all on your own, juggling motherhood, faith, and just surviving the chaos of life? If you’re anything like me, there are days when you feel like a queen holding it together, and other days when the crown feels impossibly heavy. That’s why I’ve been thinking a lot about Queen Sheba—this incredible woman who managed to rule her kingdom with grace, leave a legacy of wisdom, and still seek God in everything she did.
Queen Sheba, The Woman Behind the Legend
Queen Sheba was no ordinary ruler. She was a queen of great renown, ruling a wealthy and powerful kingdom, most likely in the region of Ethiopia or Yemen. The Bible introduces us to her in 1 Kings 10:1-13 and 2 Chronicles 9:1-12, where she makes a daring journey to meet King Solomon, the wisest man of her time. But Sheba didn’t travel to Jerusalem for a casual visit or to flaunt her wealth. No, this woman had questions—hard questions—and she wanted answers.
Can’t you just picture it? A regal woman, unafraid to challenge Solomon’s wisdom, determined to uncover truth, even if it meant a long and treacherous journey. Sheba wasn’t just a queen; she was a seeker of wisdom, a leader unafraid to grow, and a woman with the courage to stand out in a world dominated by kings.
Queen Sheba's Wisdom and Influence
Sheba’s story tells us she wasn’t just intelligent; she was discerning. When she tested Solomon’s wisdom, she wasn’t doing it to embarrass him or show off. She was on a quest for truth. And here’s the incredible part—when Solomon answered her questions, she recognised that his wisdom came from the Lord.
She said to him, “Praise be to the Lord your God, who has delighted in you and placed you on the throne of Israel. Because of the Lord’s eternal love for Israel, He has made you king, to maintain justice and righteousness” (1 Kings 10:9).
That’s what makes Sheba so remarkable—her ability to see the hand of God in Solomon’s reign. She wasn’t just wise in her questions; she was wise in her recognition of truth.
The Legacy of a Queen Sheba as the Single Mother
Here’s a fascinating twist: Ethiopian tradition tells us that Sheba and Solomon had a son, Menelik I, who became the first emperor of Ethiopia. If this is true, it makes Sheba one of the most celebrated single mothers in history. She raised a son who would go on to lead a dynasty, and she did it with the strength and wisdom of a queen who trusted in the Lord.
Can you imagine the weight of that responsibility? Raising a future king is no small task, and Sheba’s story reminds us that motherhood is one of the most powerful forms of leadership. Whether you’re guiding your children in faith, navigating school schedules, or simply trying to get everyone to eat something other than cereal, you’re shaping the future, just like Sheba.
Faith at the Center of Queen Sheba's Reign
Sheba’s loyalty to the Lord set her apart. Despite her power and wealth, she didn’t rely on worldly riches or alliances to define her reign. Instead, she sought God’s wisdom. Her visit to Solomon wasn’t just a political move; it was a spiritual pilgrimage. She wanted to understand the God who had blessed Solomon so abundantly.
This is a reminder for us, isn’t it? No matter how busy life gets—whether you’re running a household, a business, or both—keeping God at the center changes everything. Sheba’s story shows us that true wisdom starts with seeking the Lord. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding” (Proverbs 9:10).
Why Queen Sheba’s Story Matters Today
Queen Sheba isn’t just a figure from ancient history; her life holds powerful lessons for us today:
Seek Wisdom Boldly: Like Sheba, don’t be afraid to ask hard questions and seek truth, especially in your faith journey. God delights in giving wisdom to those who ask (James 1:5).
Recognise God’s Hand: Sheba acknowledged the source of Solomon’s wisdom as the Lord. Take time to see how God is working in your life, even in the little things.
Leave a Legacy: Whether or not you’re raising the next emperor, your influence as a parent and leader is invaluable. Teach your children to love the Lord and walk in His ways, just as Sheba’s legacy reflects her faith.
Trust God in the Messy Middle: Life isn’t always easy—Sheba’s journey to Jerusalem wasn’t without challenges. But when you keep your eyes on God, He’ll guide you through the messiest parts of life.
Queen Sheba Finding Grace in Your Journey
Friend, single motherhood is no small feat, but like Queen Sheba, you are capable of incredible strength, wisdom, and faith. When the days feel overwhelming, remember that God’s grace is sufficient for you, and His strength is made perfect in your weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9). You don’t have to do it all on your own—let Him carry the load.
Take a moment today to reflect on Sheba’s story. What questions are you bringing to God? How can you seek His wisdom in your life right now? I’d love to hear your thoughts—share them in the comments or join our community to connect with other women on this journey.
And don’t forget: whether you’re raising future kings or just trying to keep the house standing, you’re doing holy work. So, grab that coffee (or tea), take a deep breath, and let’s face this messy, beautiful life with Jesus at the center.
Stay faithful, stay loyal, and stay building.
With love and fire,
